DC Axial Fans are commonly known as DC Brushless Fans. Developed for portable, battery powered equipment; DC Axial Brushless fans have become very common as the technology has developed and are available in really small models for cooling laptop computers, power supplies, CPU Coolers, LCD screens, and equipment and computer mainframes. They are called Brushless because they have a permanent a magnet rotor with a circuit that converts the DC to AC to drive special coils without the need for brushes. Our concerns are with the smaller DC Axial Brushless fans used in fixed and portable equipment. Most DC Axial brushless fans are constructed of a Plastic frame with a plastic impeller (blades) while others may be all aluminum or aluminum with plastic impellers. DC Axial fans are available with sleeve bearings for quieter running or with ball bearings for longer life but higher noise, DC Axial fans as used in electronic equipment are usually supplied in standard sizes. These sizes are usually listed in metric as in 40 X 15mm but the US uses the inch measurements for DC Axial Brushless fans. Since DC Axial fans are square or round with a few that are oblong. The dimensions for our DC Axial fans are usually that of one side of the square fan “X” the thickness (Ex. 3-5/8” X 1”); where in the round & oblong the listing is the max diameter. The most common DC Axial fan sizes include but are not limited to: 2”, 2-3/8”, 2-5/8”, 3-1/8”, 3-5/8”, 4-11/16”, 5”, 6”. Available voltages include 5, 12, 24, 48VDC.
