Test Bench Curiosity Only
I bought this unit to use as a tripwire alarm across the opening of my garage. It tested good on my workbench and I set up the two units to send the beam across the opening of the garage doorway. The beam was about 2 around at the receiver end and good enough for an active alarm setup. While building the rest of the alarm circuitry set up, I left the TX unit on and over a three-four day time period, the beam slowly became weaker and weaker and became totally unusable. I had to removeit and went with a commercial driveweay opto beamunit. Id call this a test bench curiosity and not usable for any serious project. Contacting MPJA for a refund of my $20

Wire colors
My units have a silver OEM label that agrees with the prior review - BR for +, BU for -, and BK for the open collector output. Im taking those to indicate Brown, Blue, and Black. Crimping on some terminations and trying one out shortly.

Laser Opto Interupter Beam for Driveway
I purchased the Laser Opto Interupter Beam units and just finished testing them. The pair works quite well over my tested range of 5-18V. I went a volt below the specified lower limit of 6V just to see what margin I have. The output does indeed look like an open NPN collector and in my case was able to swing from less than 40 mV to almost the top rail using a load of either 220K or a 20 mA LED. The 220K resistor was for a low-power application where the load is a flip-flop. With 8 V on each, the current draw is less than 3mA for the laser and for the detector. The units look well built externally. One warning: the wire color codes are in error in the download at least for my unit. Both laser and detector had colors shown in a diagram on the units themselves, so those are what you should go by. On mine, the negative rail for each unit is the blue wire BU and the positive rail is the brown BN wire. The open-collector is the black BK wire.
